n this workshop, attendees gain an understanding of the mathematics and physics that underlie roller coaster design. We’ll see how to balance thrills with safety! Through hands-on activities, participants will see how a roller coaster is built from a scaled blue print to a simulated ride.

Katie Fowler Kavanagh, Michael Ramsdell have been working with local middle school and high school teachers for the last 11 years, to motivate their students to consider making careers out of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The activities presented here are part of our week-long summer roller coaster camp held each year for roughly 100 students.
