This course centers on the natural history, identification, and conservation of amphibians and reptiles. The focus is on regional amphibians and reptiles, with some discussion of worldwide groups. There are two in-class meetings with an optional field trip (or two) to follow; details of the trip(s) to be announced in class.

Glenn Johnson is Professor and Chair of the Biology Department at SUNY Potsdam, where he mostly teaches ecology and vertebrate biology courses. His main interest is conservation biology, especially endangered vertebrates and most particularly amphibians and reptiles. He has co-authored a recent field guide to amphibians and reptiles of New York. He has taught a dendrology (trees) course numerous times, including twice for SOAR. NOTES: 1) Suggested book: Amphibians and Reptiles of New York State: A Guide to Identification, Natural History, Conservation. Gibbs, J. P. et al (Oxford UP), 2) Boots are needed for the field trip(s).
