Learn about the history and changes of North Country This Week and their website “NorthCountryNow.com” over the past 33 years. Topics include: what the News, Ad Sales & Distribution departments do now; the challenges of running a newspaper and website locally and nationally; an explanation of why some form of local news media will likely exist for many years to come; and some predictions for local media changes nationwide in the next decade.

Bill Shumway is founder, editor, and publisher of “North Country This Week.” He started the paper with 1 full time and 1 half-time employee in his West Stockholm living room in 1984. NCTW now employs 20 people, publishes 2 editions of the paper and updates “NorthCountryNow.com” nine times each day. Bill has always had an interest in newspapers – he was a paperboy for 3 years in Junior High, served as a newsroom intern at his hometown paper in Massachusetts during his senior year in high school, and became a reporter in 1977. He moved to Potsdam in 1979.
