Karen Johnson-Weiner is a professor of anthropology at SUNY Potsdam. Driven by an interest in Pennsylvania German, she began to study Anabaptist cultures. Karen now has spent over 28 years researching Old Order Amish life. She has written extensively on Amish language use, education, and settlement. Her book on Old Order schools, Train Up a Child: Old Order Amish and Mennonite Schools, was published in 2007 by the Johns Hopkins University Press. This year her latest book, New York Amish, Life in the Plain Communities of the Empire State was published by Cornell University Press.
