Decreased bone density is a concern for many aging individuals. This exercise-based class will focus on safe and effective activities to strengthen your bones (no matter what your age). Each class will start with 20 minutes of presentation (including educational materials to take home), and follow with 60 minutes of exercises specific to building your bones. All ability levels can benefit from this class as the exercises will be tailored to each individual as much as possible. Cap: 40

Chris Towler is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Physical Therapy. He is also a certified CSCS and CEEAA.

Stacey Zeigler has been a licensed physical therapist for over 17 years. She is a board certified geriatric clinical specialist and a certified exercise expert for aging adults. Stacey engages in clinical practice for both Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley and Canton-Potsdam Hispital. She teaches in the doctorate of physical therapy program at Clarkson University, and is also busy building her own private practice - "Fun in Aging Physical Therapy."

Vicki LaFay has been a licensed physical therapist for over 20 years. She is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) and a certified exercise expert for the aging adult (CEEAA), and has experience across the age span with patients/clients in home health, outpatient orthopedics, acute care, skilled nursing and rehab, and occupational health. Vicki currently engages in clinical practice for Canton-Potsdam Hospital, St. Regis Nursing Home, Work-Fit, and Franklin County Nursing Services.

NOTES: 1) Each participant’s level will be determined on the first day of class. 2) Vicki and Chris will be assisted by Clarkson doctoral students of physical therapy. 3) Wear loose-fitting comfortable clothing and stable footwear.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: 4) "Building Better Bones: Levels 1 & 2 (Group B)" is being integrated into Group A - i.e. meeting at the same days/time and location as Group A. Sign up for Group A (CAP now is 40, encompasing both groups). 5) They are renovating Clarkson Hall this semester. If the renovations are not complete, a new location in Potsdam for this joint (A Group + B Group) class will be announced.
