“Growing old” means different things in different cultures, and thus there are many ways that human beings experience aging. In these classes we use anthropological case studies to examine aging and the life course in several non-Western societies, and compare those cultures to our own, through discussions and small group activities.

Alan Hersker is an associate professor of anthropology at SUNY Potsdam. His research interests include aging and the life course, gender, and heritage management.
