With almost 7 billion people, the world cannot continue using more resources than it produces. Sustainable development seeks to maintain prosperity while taking steps to reduce waste and improve environmental efficiency. Green chemistry – making chemicals safely while minimizing waste – offers one example of how reducing waste can lead to improved prosperity. This course explores the issue of how we can manufacture goods sustainably in the future.

Martin Walker’s specialty is organic chemistry. He has worked for 12 years in chemical process development. He has 12 years of undergraduate teaching experience and is currently teaching at SUNY Potsdam. During this time he has taught a course on sustainable manufacturing and has also maintained a productive research program in green chemistry.
