Not only will the participants of this course learn about the Eastern Bluebird – the state bird of New York, but they will also get to build a bluebird house. The course consists of: 1) lecture – covering such topics as the life-cycle of the Eastern Bluebird, how to cope with competitive birds, ideal bluebird habitat, etc., 2) a video, with time afterwards for questions and answers, 3) a hands-on assembly of a bluebird nest box.
Ron Howe was a Cooperative Extension Agent – 4-H, for 27 years for Cornell University. He has been active in the New York State Bluebird Society for the last 11 years, serving as a County Coordinator in three counties, as a member on the State Board of Directors for 6 years, and as an Area Director for 2 years. Currently he is the County Coordinator for Franklin County where he monitors three State Bluebird Trails (100+ boxes). He also provides Bluebird kits and houses for the Northern Region.
NOTE: Bring a hammer and a Phillips-head screwdriver. Materials fee is $10 for the bird house materials, payable the day of class. Cap: 25
