There are several hundred species of bats in the world. In this course we discuss why bats are so unique. You will learn what bats eat, how they find their food, why so many bat species are endangered, whether they cause diseases, and what benefits they provide us.

Roy Horst has been involved with bat research since his graduate work at Cornell. In Mexico he studied vampire bats. He is the founder of the North American Society on Bat Research which now has over 500 active members; he continues to serve on the Program Committee of that society. He is the emeritus editor of Bat Research News and continues to give presentations on this topic to various audiences, most recently to the St. Lawrence Environmental Council.
