This course is an introduction to the history of U.S. - Iranian relations in the 20th century; it also addresses the current issues between the two countries, focusing on Iranian politics and culture, Iran's relationships with its regional neighbors, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Iran's nuclear program.

Karl Schonberg holds a PhD in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia. He teaches courses on international politics at SLU. His most recent publication is a book on U.S. foreign policy after 9/11, entitled Constructing 21st Century U.S. Foreign Policy: Identity, Ideology, and America's World Role in a New Era (palgrave Macmillan, 2009).
