Short-short or flash fiction can be as long as 1,000 words or as short as seven. While the form varies, readers and writers agree that very short fiction packs quite a lot into a small space. In this class, we will read published examples of this popular form and practice writing our own, whether as stand-alone stories or building blocks for something longer.
Pedro Ponce has published very short fiction in numerous literary journals and anthologies, including Copper Nickel, Queen Mob’s Tea House, New Flash Fiction Review, and New Micro: Exceptionally Short Fiction. He teaches at St. Lawrence University.
NOTE: Bring paper and writing implements for exercises.
