The 1918 flu epidemic has been called “The Plague of the Spanish Lady.” This course provides a history of the 1918 flu pandemic* and its implications for another similar event in the future. Special attention is paid to the impact of this pandemic on daily life.

Fran Van Horne (and also her husband, Otis) received the “Super SOARer Award” in 2009. Fran is a retired nursing instructor and health educator. She is particularly interested in public health, especially in the area of communicable diseases.
