The course on Bach will explore topics of musical symbolism in the keyboard, cantata and Passion music, as well as Bach’s interest in out-of-the-norm musical instruments. Examples of how Bach communicated musically to his family, friends, students and patrons will also be discussed.

Rebecca Gerber is a musicologist with a specialty in Renaissance music and 15th century manuscript studies, but also with an interest in Bach. She teaches undergraduates and graduate students at the Crane School of Music and also directs the Presidential Scholars Program.
