Many in the North Country are familiar with the Norwood Brass Firemen. This musical group has an extremely long and interesting history. Many communities had brass bands in earlier years, but the Norwood Brass Firemen is one of the few still existing to the present day. This presentation will include information about the band’s beginnings and interesting aspects of its history over the years.

Jane Subramanian served as a librarian at SUNY Potsdam for 38 years and also served as College Archivist prior to her retirement. She continues to volunteer at the College Archives and Special Collections. She has published and given presentations on topics in librarianship, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and the Norwood Brass Firemen. The presentation she wrote on the Brass Firemen was a winner in a nationwide competition of the Music Library Association, and Jane delivered this presentation at their annual meeting in San Diego, California in March 2010.
