In these class sessions, we examine the role of the citizen as advocate and the importance of advocacy in our society. General topics include such things as: advocacy to influence elected representatives, working with other advocacy groups, and building coalitions for change. We also will identify and explore issues that are important to class participants, and will work collaboratively to design individual action plans for achieving change related to those issues.
As a special educator, Eileen Raymond has been involved with disability advocacy work for many years. As an active citizen and former League of Women Voters member, she has worked with others to achieve a variety of societal and governmental changes.
NOTE: This course meets in a computer lab so that the class can have easy access to information. Because work in class is a collaborative effort, you do not need computer skills to attend.
