Materials list for "Art Workshop A" (.pdf form for printing)
Art Workshop A is designed both for aspiring artists who wish to learn basic watercolor techniques and for those who wish to advance their painting skills in water media, e.g. watercolor, gouache, or acrylic. A more structured approach will be taken with the former; a more independent interaction will apply to the latter. Instruction will be through both group and individual presentations and also through critiques.
Leon LeBeau has been teaching drawing and watercolor to SOAR participants since the beginning of the SOAR program; he has also instructed art classes at the Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg and at the For Art’s Sake Gallery in Malone. Leon has participated in numerous exhibits in the North Country and the Adirondacks. His work is being displayed through August 25th, 2012 at the St. Lawrence County Arts Council (51 Market St., Potsdam). In spring 2004, Leon received the very first “Super SOARer” award. The “Outstanding Service to SOAR” award was created in honor of his years of dedication to our organizations.
NOTE: A list of needed supplies will be sent with your registration confirmation; it is also posted below the Assignments.
ASSIGNMENTS:
- Classes 1 & 2: Be prepared to create a mixed media painting in class 1 combining watercolor with either 1 or more media such as colored pencil, pen and ink, or other media of your choice. We will critique this artwork during Class2.
- Class 3: Create a painting inspired by a recently or not so recently discovered artist or inspired by newly discovered techniques.
- Class 4: Taking inspiration from Vermeer or Rembrandt paint a scene using light in a dramatic way.
- Class 5: Create a painting that espouses a strong theme, be it positive or negative, e.g. the futility of war or the solace of a sunrise.
- Class 6: Take a realistic subject and abstract it into its geometric or amorphous shapes. Think mosaic.
- Class 8: Let's end this term with a landscape or other wordly collage. Keep in mind that these art exercises are optional but are designed to stretch the creative intellect; feel free to listen to your own individual muse!
